Ellen Hamilton Murphy
Ellen Hamilton Murphy, age 36, is a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist based in Georgetown, Kentucky. Professional since 2010, she specializes in coaching young professionals, adult amateurs and junior/young riders. Her students’ achievements include year end championships, qualifying for and placing at major national venues in both dressage and eventing. In addition, Ellen has been very successful on horses she has personally developed and competed.
Ellen earned her BS in Community Communications, Leadership, Development, and Education for the College of Agriculture, University of Kentucky. She served as Director of Equine Education at the renowned Kentucky Horse Park for several years, where she taught Equine Science, Equitation, and Horsemanship from the introductory level to post secondary level. She brings her passion for continuing equine education to her dressage business on a daily basis, helping students and clients understand classic horsemanship from the ground up.
Ellen’s aim as a trainer, coach, and breeder is to produce classically correct horses and riders, regardless of breed and competitive ambitions.
Dani asked for her first pony at age 4. At age 8, she finally got lessons with a local Arabian trainer. It would be another 6 years of hard work before she got her own Arabian horse, showing 4H and dabbling on the flat. She attended Eastern Kentucky University for a Bachelors of Police Studies with a minor in Sociology and Criminal Deviance. However, she considers her most valuable education to be was the introduction to classical dressage with trainer, Johanna Consolver, who provided a solid foundation and started her on the path as a working student and trainer.
In New England , she then worked with Phil Silva and his wife Orintha before heading to Florida to work for Eugene Abello and Brian MacMahon. After returning home to Kentucky to be closer to family, she began taking on individual students and horses in training. It was a few years later that she finally found Ellen Murphy Sporthorses, coming on as Assistant Trainer and Barn Manager. She's now working on competing at FEI levels with her horse Junior, while sharing her extensive knowledge with a new generation of up and coming dressage riders.
Serving as Team EMS' Marketing Director since September of 2017, Katie has returned to dressage after a ten year hiatus. In that time, she earned her BFA in Graphic Design from Murray State University and pined to be back in the saddle. She got back into lessons first, riding with Dani Ritter and relearning dressage basics, and after 30 years of riding, caring for and loving other people's horses, she finally got her first horse in 2016.
Katie's goal is to get back into riding shape enough to train second level and work to develop a better bond with her 18 hh warmblood, George.
Katie serves as web designer, social media liaison, and communication planner for Ellen Murphy Sporthorses.
